What is Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (adhd)?

ADHD assessment

What is ADHD Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is diagnosed when an individual displays significant differences in their levels of attentiveness, hyperactivity and impulsiveness.

The majority of individuals are diagnosed when they are children between about the ages of 6 to 12 years old, however as recognition of the condition increases more adults are seeking a diagnosis to help them understand themselves.

Undiagnosed ADHD can have an accumaltive impact on an individual’s life. During the school years an individual may underachieve compared to their academic potential because they struggle to concentrate and can be easily distracted. They may have lots of energy and can get themselves into risky situations because they can act without thinking of the consequences.

As an individual with ADHD grows up, they may learn to manage many of the behavioural traits associated with the condition. However many ADHD adults describe on-going difficulties with organisation, a mind that is constantly ‘on-the-go’ and and feel unable to relax.
